As one of Europe’s most sought after and highly regarded drummers, Mark Alfred is constantly in demand from some of the world’s biggest music acts, major record labels and television producers.
Described as a "truly gifted drummer in the league of the legendary Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy," Mark is a native of Monaghan, Ireland and boasts a resume and a schedule that reads like a who’s who of the top international acts touring the world today.
His very individualistic, versatile and energetic style has seen him play with acts as diverse as Lionel Richie, Simply Red, Tara Blaise, Katie Melua, Josh Groban, John Hughes, The Corrs, Tim Wheeler (Ash), The Divine Comedy, Lemar, Shayne Ward, Mary Coughlan, Ronan Keating, Westlife, Girls Aloud, Donnie Osmond and the late Christy Hennessey.
Mark began playing drums at the age of four, first studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and then the Performing Arts College Dublin. With a style that combines power with finesse, precision with subtlety, Mark has quickly established himself as Ireland’s premier and most in demand session drummer. His success at home has quickly transformed into international distinction as he now bases himself between Los Angeles, London and Dublin.
As well as contracting musicians for the world’s premier music acts, Mark books musicians for primetime Irish TV show, The Late Late Show, which is the longest running chat show in the world. Mark has been a regular on the show as well as all the leading award shows in recent years for various acts.
In between that, Mark has — and continues — to tour the world with the Grammy winning show Riverdance. His involvement with the show has taken him to such prestigious venues as Radio City Music Hall in New York and Pantages Theatre, Los Angeles. He has also graced many of Ireland most prestigious sporting venues such as the headquarters of Gaelic Games, Croke Park, which has a capacity of over 82,000 people.
Mark is also a highly distinguished studio drummer and has enjoyed considerable success in this field working with many top acts on dozens of records. He is also the resident session drummer to the world famous Westland studios. Mark has also twice played the highly prestigious Ryder cup, first in Ireland in 2006 and then in Detroit, US, in 2008 in front of a world television audience of millions.
In a true statement of his ability, Mark proudly endorses leading cymbal company Zildjian, percussion giant Vater percussion, Evans Drumheads, Pearl drums and Protection Racket.
In truth, today “Mark is a true master of his craft, which is why he is in such demand,” according to Ireland’s Sunday Independent newspaper. Whether it’s in studio, on television, on stage or in front of a gala audience, Mark’s unique ability and range of talents distinguishes him among the elite drummers in the world.
