James Payne was born (1988-08-08) August 8, 1988 in Milan, Italy. He began playing drums at the age of ten. In 2007 he founded the band 'Hiss from the Moat' with which tours all over his country, around Europe and started to appear on the Internet with some videos and interviews on websites such as SickDrummer.com. In 2009 James joined the band Awaken Demons and started touring doing over 100 gigs per year all over the globe. He was also in the Italian technical death metal band Hour of Penance (2012-2014).

James then joined the Italian band signed to Universal Music, Broken Heart College, and started a drum Youtube channel with Alessandro Lombardo called the DrumHouse where has really close contacts with some of the best drummers in the world. In 2012 he joined Hour of Penance and started to constantly tour all over the world and his other band 'Hiss from the Moat' released an album for Nuclear Blast.

Today James is the drummer for the American death metal band Vital Remains (2014-present), Hiss from the Moat, co-founder of the DrumHouse Youtube channel and proudly endorses Vic Firth, Zildjian, Tama and Remo.
